The musical composing duo, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, wrote The King and I. They took inspiration from Margaret Landon’s novel "Anna and the King of Siam". The King and I premiered on Broadway in 1951, and this revival by Bartlett Sher opened on Broadway in 2015

The multi award-winning Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I returns to London’s West End at the Dominion Theatre, following its record-breaking season at The London Palladium and sell-out UK tour.

Call the Midwife’s Helen George will play Anna Leonowens, opposite Darren Lee as the King of Siam, in a lavish production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I at the Dominion Theatre.

The musical tells the story of a British teacher and widowed woman, Anna Leonowens, who is hired by the King of Siam in efforts to modernise the country. As the pair learn of each other’s traits, their relationship is marred by conflict.

The King and I musical boasts well-known musical numbers, such as “Something Wonderful”, “Whistle a Happy Tune”, “I Have Dreamed”, “Shall We Dance?” and “Getting to Know You.”
